Then it is easier to compare mood changes, changes in their mental health and cognitive function over time. Typically, a period of one month is monitored and compared with people who have not taken any psilocybin, and who are sober from other substances.

This includes those that used psilocybin alone, psilocybin with Lion’s mane mushrooms, and psilocybin with lion’s mane mushrooms and niacin.

 

Across different genders and age groups including people who had or had no mental health issues, it was found that micro-dosing psilocybin had a similar level of improvement in their mental health and mood. Older people who micro-dosed using a combination of psilocybin, lion’s mane, and niacin, showed greater improvements in some of the tests but without any clear increase in cognitive function. The only other exception were women who showed a greater reduction in the symptoms of depression than men.

The results are promising from science regarding the healing potential of psilocybin. With more clinical trials and increased sample sizes, it is likely that medical science will confirm that psychedelics, including magic mushrooms, are of value for health, healing, brain cognition, and well-being. The modest improvements observed in the clinical trials may be due to expectation of positive results or it may be pharmacological in nature. Certainly, comparing trials with people who micro-dose with those who take large doses of psychedelics, including psilocybin, LSD, mescaline, and DMT, will reveal more about the healing and cognitive benefits of psychedelics in general.
